Happy Father's Day!

The girls got to go to girls camp this week. It was ward camp and they stayed at a cabin in the mountains. They had lots of fun rappelling, playing in a pond, fishing for crawdads, and they even got to go to the Snowflake temple and do baptisms! They're so lucky!

We are so grateful they had a great time and came home safely. Today is Father's Day and I'm so grateful for a loving father who has always been such a support for me. I was telling Carrie the other day that dad let me listen to the new Tim McGraw CD in the car on the way to Lake Tahoe at least 6 times. I think on the 7th time he had had enough and asked if we could listen to the radio instead. He gives great advice and is always supportive. Love you dad!!
I'm so blessed to have married a guy who loves being a dad. He loves to play soccer and other sports with his kids, swims with them and loves to cuddle with them. The kids and I love you Rick. Some good news for Rick, he got another job! He actually got a few offers, it seems that having an insurance license was the right thing to do. He'll be working for the Spring Venture Group in Scottsdale starting on July 8th. He'll be selling Medicare insurance and we hope he is very successful at it. He's excited to start a new career.

Week in Review...

Ashlyn had her first swim meet this last week and she did great! She's a strong swimmer. She gets up at 6 am each morning, rides her bike to swim team, does swim team for an hour then she rides her bike home for an hour. Then she rides her bike back to the pool to help with swim lessons from 9-12. She's in the water a lot and loves helping the kids with swim lessons. Jacob gets up at the same time and rides his bike to swim team and then stays another hour for dive team. He's loving it.

Dad playing games with the kids today after church.

We got this picture at the fireside last Sunday for Trek. So cute!

We watched Griffin this week while his normal sitter was out of town. Abby had fun playing with him at the pool. His mom didn't think he would enjoy swimming, but luckily he did!

Haley was going bowling with her friends on Friday and her friend crashed into a pole after taking a turn too fast. I'm grateful they were all seat-belted. The driver hurt her neck when the airbags deployed and the seat belt burnt her. The drivers passenger sprained her wrist and can't move her arm, Haley has bruises on her chest and sternum presumably from the seat belt and from bracing herself. We took her into Urgent care to have her sternum x-rayed and luckily her bones are OK but her muscles are sore and painful. She's having pain when taking deep breaths, hopefully she will start improving soon. The other passenger was a little sore yesterday but is feeling better today. We are grateful that their injuries weren't worse and that they are all OK. Haley is scared to drive now, but hopefully this will help her to be a cautious driver and she can learn from her friends mistake. Car accidents are scary, we are glad that they are all OK.

Jacob got to go with the young men out on the lake to go cat fishing and they spent the night on the boat! He had so much fun!

Abby has been sick since Friday night with a high fever and tummy pain. We took her to the dr and they said it was a virus. She woke up at 4:30 this morning with a fever and I gave her some tylenol and she's been steadily feeling better all day. We are so happy to see her improving:)

Week in Review...June 2, 2019

Anna found this cute picture of Haley in her room, during their move...
Abby being her usual monkey self. She's literally holding herself up by her arms and legs, shes super strong!

Haley and Ashlyn had the amazing experience of going on Trek from Wednesday to Friday. They had an amazing time, ate lots of great food, worked hard, played hard and learned that they can do hard things!

Meanwhile, Abby and I played at the park. Her friend Holly was at the park one night too...

Carrie and I found a splash pad and did some detective work figuring out how to turn it on. The kids enjoyed it...

After swimming for 2 hours on Saturday the kids are always cold no matter how warm it is outside. We are having unseasonably cool temps, and we aren't complaining! We have been in the 80's and 90's this last week, we are finally going to hit 100 this coming week. It's been a mild start to the summer to say the least. We are loving it!

The sweetwater experience...

And they made it home safe and sound!

This week the kids started swim team, which begins at 6:30 am! Jacob is doing dive team and Ashlyn is doing Jr. Lifeguarding this summer so they are busy. Girls camp is in 2 weeks and we are already spending lots of time at the pool. Rick has been studying for his Arizona Producer Life, Accident/Health/Sickness Insurance license for the last several months. A few weeks ago he took the exam and passed it and is now licensed to sell those types of insurance. The problem that he's finding is that the companies that sell these insurances don't offer medical benefits, but if he gets his Property/Casualty insurance license as well, then he can be hired on to companies that do offer medical benefits. He's had an offer from State Farm Insurance, but they can't hire him until he gets his Property/Casualty license. So he's trying to navigate how to proceed, it will probably take about  a month to study and hopefully pass the next exam. This has opened up a new career field that he's interested in and we are excited to get started. Prayers are always appreciated as we navigate new career waters.

Week in Review... May 26, 2019

Ashlyn made the principals honor roll! She also auditioned for Chamber Orchestra and made it! She had a great 7th grade year!

Abby's class celebrated summer birthdays with an ice cream party, it was so cute to see her wearing her crown.
I think it helped that she wasn't the only one being celebrated, that was the key to success!

Her classmate Jack has the same birthday as Abby!
Last day of school!! She was pretty excited and actually a little bit sad. It's been a great growing year for her and we are excited to see how much she grows next year in a kindergarten-1st grade combo class.

Last day of school I was able to sneak away during Abby's last lunch time. Kindergartners are so cute!

I was moving bricks in our backyard the other day and I came across this guy! And his nest...luckily he ran over the wall and into our neighbors yard. I just wonder how long he's been living there!

Abby and Ashlyn playing at the park...

First day of swimming yesterday! The only problem is that it's cold!! haha! First year that we've had that problem. It was only 80 yesterday, and we are heading back to the 70's! So weird, but I'm not complaining! Just super cold for swimming. Abby went down the slide for the first time and went twice!! She had the biggest smile on her face, she is a water baby for sure!

Haley at her workplace, had to make her smile. haha.

Rick found out this week that he'll be losing his job next week. So we are back on the hunt for a good fit. This trial has been a tough one, but we will get through it.
I gave a talk in church on Sunday and felt led to go in a different direction than I had previously wanted to go. One of my primary teachers came up to me after sacrament and said that it was exactly what she needed to hear. I was so grateful to hear that!!

Here's my talk--
Good Morning, today I’ve been asked to give a talk on Elder Rasband’s last conference address entitled, “ Build a fortress of spirituality and protection.” He begins his talk by describing how his grandfather had helped build the Heber fort in Utah. The settlers built the fort for their own safety and protection. Forts were commonly built with a watchtower for someone to stand on so that they could view the surrounding area of any danger. Being upon the watchtower they could see danger coming, much faster than anyone on the ground. Elder Rasband compares the person standing on the watch tower to our Prophet because our Prophet can warn us of danger as well. He says this, “Our Prophet who stands at the watch tower of our fortress has taught,  “in coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting and constant influence of the holy ghost.” With that in mind, I wanted to focus my talk on the holy ghost, because if we allow the holy ghost into our homes, we are protecting our homes just like a spiritual fortress. If we create an atmosphere in our homes where the holy ghost can reside, then we provide opportunities for the Holy Ghost to teach, testify, comfort and guide us.
In my research about the holy ghost, I came across this story told by Elder Gary E. Stevenson-(paraphrased but they were hiking and he was about to climb onto a big rock when his dad suddenly took him off the rock and said not to climb that rock. Later they found out that a rattlesnake had been sunbathing on top of that rock. His father had felt a prompting not to have his son climb that rock) I love that story.
I love my calling in the primary, I think primary is the best. If it’s been awhile since you’ve felt the spirit, I would invite you to come and visit us in primary.
I love this primary song called, "the holy ghost"-
When Christ was on the earth, he promised he would send the holy ghost to comfort us, our true, eternal friend, the holy spirit whispers with a still small voice he testifies of God and christ and makes our hearts rejoice and when we are confirmed by sacred priesthood power the holy ghost is given to us to guide us every hour oh may i always listen to that still small voice and with his light i’ll do what's right each time i make a choice.
Whenever I have lost something, I always turn to the holy ghost for help in finding it. When we are unsure of a situation, we can pray that we will be able to discern whether or not it’s good or bad.
If we are feeling all alone in the world and like nobody's there for us, I testify that if we pray for comfort, we will receive it.
The holy ghost has been my constant companion for as long as I can remember. If i start to feel scared, I immediately pray to my Heavenly Father to send the holy ghost to comfort me. The holy ghost can comfort us like nobody else can, because he carries the love of Christ thru him. He testifies of Christ. If you trust in heavenly father, that he’s in control then thru the holy ghost you can have access to what you need.
Elder Rasband says, “if we pay attention to the promptings that come to us, we will grow in the spirit of revelation and receive more and more spirit driven insight and direction.” So in other words, the more that we rely on the spirit the more in tune to the spirit we will be. I love that we can receive so much inspiration from the holy ghost and receive our own personal revelation. One important part of learning from the holy ghost is figuring out how the holy ghost speaks to you. The amazing thing about the holy ghost is that he knows that we each learn differently, therefore he teaches us differently. I’m a visual learner, so when I lose something and I’m praying for guidance to help me find that lost thing I will have an image come in my brain of where I should look. It’s quite fascinating actually, that he’s so in tune with how I learn. I also feel very warm inside and I cry when I’m feeling the spirit. I also feel sick to my stomach if I’ve making a wrong choice. Some of you may feel the spirit totally differently, and that’s awesome because you also learn differently than me. Some of you may get goose bumps, or have words brought to your minds, there's so many ways that the spirit can teach. It’s just another testament to me that Heavenly Father knows us individually.
I’m so grateful that I was given this opportunity to talk today because in researching for this talk I learned something new about the holy ghost. The holy ghost does all the things that I’ve previously mentioned, but he also does something else that I had never heard before. The holy ghost also delivers the blessings of the atonement of Jesus Christ into our lives. Elder D. Todd Christofferson taught, “the gift of the holy ghost is the messenger of grace by which the blood of Christ is applied to take away our sins and sanctify us.”
Did you catch that?
It is the holy ghost that cleanses our sins and purifies us. If you were to ask me, who cleanses our sins? I would’ve said Jesus. While it is Jesus’ atonement that made it possible for us to be cleansed from the stain of sit, it is the holy ghost as the messenger or deliverer of the atonement who actually does the cleansing.
Alma 32:12- Now they after being sanctified by the holy ghost, having their garments made white, being pure and spotless before God, could not look upon sin save it were with abhorrence.
Moroni 6:4-And after they had been received unto baptism and were wrought upon and cleansed by the power of the holy ghost they were numbered among the people of the church of Christ.
Pres. Eyring said, “if you have felt the influence of the holy ghost during this day, or even this evening, you may take it as evidence that the atonement is working in your life. For that reason, and many others, you would do well to put yourself in places and in tasks that invite the promptings of the holy ghost, the reception of the holy ghost cleanses us through the atonement of Jesus Christ.”

I shared a personal story about when I felt the Holy Ghost powerfully in my life. It was during the first time that I went through the temple and lots of Ricks extended family and mine had gone through with me in support. When I walked into the celestial room, I was greeted with hug after hug, meeting new family members. I had this overwhelming feeling of feeling loved, comforted and at peace that I was in the house of the lord. I also had a glimpse of how it will feel when I pass away, to be greeted by so many family members, many that I have never met before and an assurance that I felt very loved. It was an amazing experience.

I hope that we can all strive to make our homes place where the holy ghost can reside, because that is how we build our spiritual fortress from the world.
